Social and Humanitarian Technologies of Engineering

Agency for Strategic Initiatives (ASI) and the Moscow School of Management SKOLKOVO released the Atlas of New Professions and Forbes selected 25 of the most interesting professions and made a list of Russian universities, where we can already try to get the education required in the future. Tomsk Polytechnic University trains specialists in ten occupations from the list of Forbes.

These are composition engineer, urbanist-ecologist, city-farmer, virtual world designer, eco-promoter, an expert on overcoming system environmental disasters, the designer of “smart” environment, a network lawyer, medical robot designer, electric refueller, digital linguist.

selects composite materials for the production, including for 3D-printing, of robotic devices with determined characteristics.

City farmer

grows vegetables and fruits on the roofs and walls of skyscrapers.

Virtual world designer

creates virtual worlds with its nature, architecture and its laws.


preaches environmentally conscious lifestyle and educational programs for children and adults.

Expert in overcoming systemic environmental disasters

prevents disaster, people gradually realized that: pollution around industrial centres, radiation dumps, melting glaciers.

Designer of “smart” environment

creates software and technology solutions to homes and offices to respond to user requests.

Network lawyer

develops legislation for the virtual world, and networks, as well versed in the protection of virtual property.

Medical robot designer

specialist, designing robots and devices for medicine: diagnostic robots, surgeons, cyber prosthesis.

Electric refueller

serves charging for electric vehicles.

Digital linguist

develops a system of semantic linguistic translation (taking into account the context and meaning), text processing (including semantic search on the Internet) and new interfaces of communication between humans and computers in natural languages.
